Does it bother anyone else when you see a pro author you like and admire say something disparaging about fanfic?

Most recent example: I went to George R.R. Martin's website to find out info on his forthcoming book, and I saw on his FAQ for new writers, one of his pieces of advice is to write everyday, but don't write in borrowed universes, because it's lazy. You need to learn how to create your own characters and world.

My response? ARGH. And a desire to write him a letter, but I probably won't.

Car is now fixed. Hurrah. They also gave her a bath. Yay for all four tires being intact.

I then succeeded in getting the last few presents I'll need for Thursday (presents happening on Christmas Eve at our house, since my brother's in-laws come over for dinner and then he goes to them on the Day). I still have to wrap about half of them, and I'm on the hook for wrapping my dad's presents for my mom as well, but I'm through shopping.

Will probably need to do some laundry. And spend a little time on the ski-machine thing. And give some attention to re-packing my stuff, because aiee, it's going to be a tight fit in there. (abka, are you going to need a lift back from NYE? I'ma need to work out exactly how many cubic feet I have to work with. Note please - and note to ellen_fremedon as well, whether or not abka is riding with us - smallest bag you can get away with, okay? Srsly.)

My brother and sister-in-law gave me the 8-bit Super Mario Bros. emulator for the Wii, and kicked off the nostalgia tour. They also gave me "World of Goo", which is a surprisingly mesmerizing game of moving stuff and building towers and things.

Some work to do tomorrow, as well. Mustn't forget that.

Our twelfth Hawt Menz of the season is a reappearance. He appeared in the first 12 Days and due to him being pretty much the best eight or so minutes of the Wolverine movie this spring, he earned himself a spot once again. Taylor Kitsch hails from my neck of the woods. Well. Slightly north. Kelowna BC born... a city that is always reporting itself on fire in the summer. Personally? I think this is retroactive spontaneous combustion that occurs when the city realises what kind of hawt it produced.

Have been reading The Mute Sheppard, slowly, bit by bit, as I get stuck on the ending of my pinch hit (it's coming, I swear!).

If this isn't by sheafrotherdon, I'll eat my snow shovel.

Have dug out the driveway (and was promptly snowplowed back in, grah). Heading to DC later today.

I'm stuck in Orlando without a computer plug, and I won't be back until either very late on the 24th or early on the 25th. I have my handheld with me, though, which is great for reading things I've been directly linked to, although it's not very useful for using the AO3 search engine :(

I would love to read my fic, though, and I allow commenting, so if you can give me a direct link to your fic, or if any of my flisties can do so, I would be very, very grateful.
